Anybody use synthetic in their Kubota diesel engines? Are there any problems with using synthetic oil?

Certainly nothing wrong with using synthetic oil in a diesel as long as it's spec'd for diesel engines; I'd look for the API rating of CH-4. And I won't go into the pros and cons very far because that topic always results in lots of conflicting opinions.LOL But the synthetic has definite advantages in extremely cold weather and it costs more. ....

The only 'don't' I've heard is not to use synthetics in new tractors until they're well broken in. Some people have said not to switch to a synthetic before 250 hours. I've also heard people say fewer hours is OK. ....

I've put 1,312 hours so far between two different tractors in the last 3 yrs. Both run with Mobil's Delvac 1 and never a problem in that area. I don't recall where I read it but, the military did extensive research on this product and now use it in thier fighting vehicles, Abrams, Bradley, etc.

There is nothing wrong with using synthetic oil in any engine. In a number of ways it is better than natural oil. There has been a lot of dicussion regarding its use. The only thing with a diesel you should not anticipate extending the time between changes. Diesels produce more contamination and dirty the oil quicker than a gas engine. ....

Here is another interesting bit of fluff. Some automobile manufacturers are now using full synthetics as a "factory fill", meaning they are pouring the stuff in a brand new engine. I don't know what the difference, if any, is between gasoline and diesel engines are in terms of break-in time but it is clear that some biggies like Chrysler don't think synthetic oils affect it. My new Troybilt 10 horse chipper allows for synthetic oils of an original fill right out of the crate. So why not in a diesel? Are not both types of engines constructed from the same types of materials? ....

I have a diesel automobile (Volkswagen) that came from the factory with a full synthetic 5W-40 oil in the crankcase. We've all heard the stories about not using synthetic oils until after the engine is broken in, but apparently VW doesn't believe any of it. VW also recommends changing the oil at 5,000 miles, 10,000 miles, and then every 10,000 miles thereafter, but mechanical paranoid that I am, I don't believe any of THAT. I can't let anything go 10,000 miles without an oil change. (Your paranoia level may vary.) Anyway, I plan on switching to a full synthetic the next time the diesel tractor is due for an oil change. I figure it can't hurt ... and it might help. But I just can't bring myself to extend the change intervals. ....
